Abelleus
After Sir Tor finds the brachet in the Quest of the
White Hart and heads back to Camelot, he is overtaken by the knight Abelleus
claiming that the brachet was his and demanded that Tor return it. Abelleus was
a seemly knight and well armed and horsed. Tor refuses and the two knights
battle. They fought until they were exhausted but Tor redoubled his effort and
beat Abelleus to the ground. Abelleus refused to yield unless Tor would return
the brachet. Tor can not yield the brachet and is on the point of taking both it
and Abelleus back to Camelot when a damosel arrives and beseeches Tor for a
gift. When Tor agrees, she requests Abelleus' head as he was a false knight. Tor
is loth to agree, hoping that Abelleus can make amends. But the damosel claims
that such can not happen because Abelleus killed her brother. In an adventure of
arms, Abelleus overcame her brother but refused to show mercy even when the
knight yielded. The damosel even kneeled in the mud beseeching his mercy but
Abelleus killed her brother before her eyes.
Abelleus became afraid and yielded now but Tor is indecisive as to how he must act. Tor takes off Abelleus' helm and the knight flees. Tor pursues Abelleus and beheads him.
