Tregeseal
Cornwall
Tregeseal stone circle, also known as "The Dancing Stones" is part of a double circle. The circles were given their name of The Dancing Stones according to legend as the stones are supposedly young girls turned to stone, for taking part in round dances on the Sabbath.
The circles were
set on an east-west alignment, although the other circle is no longer visible as
it has now been destroyed. The 20
white stones that form the circle are all approx. one metre in height.
One of the stones has fallen, but the other 19 stones still remain
standing. The site can be overgrown
in summer, but can bee seen clearly from a vantage point on the wall that runs
approx 15 metres to the south west of the circle.
A prominent backdrop to the circle is that of the Tor of Carn Kenidjack.
Aerial photography has recorded what may have been a third circle. The site of this possible third circle is to the west of the field, and along the same axis as the other two circles.
