Oddendale
Stone Circle
Just
like its name, Oddendale stone circle is an odd little circle.
It is listed as a double concentric circle, although the inner circle is
now quite ruined. The stones of the
outer circle are quite small, almost level with the grass, which, when
approaching the site from lower down the hill makes the circle difficult to be
seen. The site is reached on a side
road from the A6, and on the roadside at the junction is Castlehowe Scar stone
circle. Mostly ruined, Castlehowe
is now nothing more than a few large boulders next to a dry stone wall.
Directions
From the A6 east of Shap, take a side road that leads to a farm and a quarry. A footpath can be taken from here that leads up to the circle.
