Nine Stones
Cornwall
This perfect circle lies near to the village of Altarnum. Approx 50ft across and consiting of eight stones in a circle with a ninth stone near the centre, this is the smallest and neatest stone circle on Bodmin Moor. Seven of the circles stones are standing, with one fallen stone at the NE of the circle. At the north of the circle is a gap, which, although looks like an entrance, could be the site of a missing stone. The stones are of local granite, and the tallest stands at approx just over 4ft in height.
To the ENE of the circle stands a row of small stones that run towards the nearby ridge. Cairns lie on this ridge.
Directions
Approx seven miles SW of Launceston, the circle lies approx 3/4 mile north, over the hill from the unfenced lane.
