Little Meg & her Daughters
Lake District
This, the smaller sister of Long Meg, is also known as the Maughanby Circle. This small kerb circle is approx 20ft across. Over the years the circle has been much disturbed, and the stone that lies near the centre has possibly been moved to the centre at sometime because of the plough marks in the stone.
The stones surround a barrow that contains a cist with an urned cremation.
A slab that lies next to the tallest stone is decorated with concentric circles that have been carved into it. Only three of the stone circles in the Cumbria have been decorated in such a fashion - and they all lie fairly close together. The three being Little meg, nearby Long Meg and Glassonby approx. a mile away. A more elaborately carved stone is in the Tullie House Museum in Carlisle.
Directions
From the village of Little Salkeld, Long Meg is sign posted. Little Meg is approx 1/2 mile further down the lane.
