Lanyon Quoit
Cornwall
Set on the same moorland as Men-an-Tol, this Neolithic monument is an impressive site. Although there are only the support stones and the large capstone there now, this tomb would have originally been covered with an earthen mound.
The sheer size of the capstone is impressive! Surrounding the Quoit there seems to be a lot of similar stones randomly set into the earth. Off to one side is what seems to be a square pond that has a large stone placed squarely on three of its sides. Whether this pond or the surrounding stones are anything to do with the Quoit is unknown, but they do add to the scenery!
Directions
From the A30, follow the signs for the village of Madron. Once through the village of Madron, Lanyon Qouit is on the right hand side of the road. On the same side of the road as the Quoit there are a couple of narrow parking places at the edge of the road.
