Down
Tor Stone Circle
Dartmoor, Southern England
One
of the most attractive features on Dartmoor, this ring cairn is attached to a
long stone row that is concave as dips down and then rises up again with the
terrain as it leads to the stone circle. There
is a ruined cairn within the circle. The
circle is formed by 25 small stones that average approx 1.5ft in height.
Just outside the circle, standing at right angles to the row is a
terminal stone that stands at 9ft in height.
The stones that stand in the row increase in height as they reach the 9ft
pillar.
Directions
From the north east end of the Burrator Reservoir, the circle is a 2km walk.
