Ruthin

North East Wales

Huail the son of Caw, and Arthur were rivals in love for a certin Lady.  They fought and Huail wounded Arthur in the knee.  Arthur agreed to forgive Huail on the condition that the wound wasn't to be mentioned.  Soon afterwards, Arthur disguised himself as a woman and went to a dance at Ruthin where his mistress went also.  Huail realised that the "woman" was Arthur because of his limp and remarked that "she" would be a fine dancer if it wasn't for "her" lame knee.  This remark released Arthur from his obligation and led to Huail's beheading.  The boulder where the beheading took place now stands in the Market Square in Ruthin.
