Site of the fortress built by Vortigern, but the tower kept collapsing. Young Merlin told Vortigern that the tower would never stay up because two dragons, one red and one white, were fighting in a subterranean pool. The dragons were set free and emerged to fight and the red one triumphed. Merlin explained that the white dragon was the Saxons and the red one the British. There are still remains of a fort there.
